Elk garden Russell Co. Va Apr the 28th 1857

For the kind and respectful manner in which you have addressed me, is not a little calculated to create a favrouble impression in your behalf.

I have always regarded you with much favor, though it may not seem womanly to acknowledge the the fact, but I never, for a moment entertained the thought that you would make a proposal of marriage.

I cannot little testify my regard for what you urge, than by a favrouble reply to what you propose knowing as your principles and character are good and that you will act towards me as becomes a faithful and affectionate husband.
